"A committee found 98 teachers unfit to teach and yet the City plans to assign those teachers to other classrooms next year. That passing of the lemons means several thousand students will be subjected to subpar teaching. This is yet another example of how City Hall's failure to negotiate a good contract with the teachers union means that children will suffer," said StudentsFirstNY Executive Director Jenny Sedlis.
In addition, City Hall is touting the "success" of three schools that supposedly improved when:
- Automotive High School's graduation rate actually DROPPED from 58.1% to 47% and it still has a college readiness rate of 3%.
- John Adams High School's graduation rate is still below the city average and still only 20% of graduates are college ready.
- J.H.S. 080 The Mosholu Parkway's went from 5% math proficiency to 6% and 5% ELA proficiency to 8%.
