STATEMENT: StudentsFirstNY reacts to AQE's Education Action Summit demands

StudentsFirstNY // November 20, 2013

Despite spending more money per student than any other state, New York is in the middle of the pack when it comes to educational achievement, leaving many of our students unprepared for college and future careers.

Today, StudentsFirstNY Executive Director Jenny Sedlis, released the following statement:

“Despite spending more money per student than any other state, New York is in the middle of the pack when it comes to educational achievement, leaving many of our students unprepared for college and future careers. Governor Cuomo has increased the education budget by $1.8 billion over the last two years, but more importantly he recognizes we cannot keep spending with nothing to show for it. That is why we support investing public dollars in what works. The State should continue to take bold actions that raise standards for our kids and teachers such as establishing the first-ever statewide teacher evaluation system and leading the nation in adopting the new more rigorous Common Core learning standards. These efforts rightly make the performance of our students the priority, and not the amount of money we are spending.”
