Mayor de Blasio is force placing 400 teachers from the Absent Teacher Reserve (ATR) pool into classrooms in the poorest neighborhoods. All students deserve great teachers, and our high need communities need them the most. We must demand that no teacher gets forced on a school without the principal’s consent!
In 2014, his schools chancellor Carmen Fariña promised “There will be no forced placement of staff.” Now, the Mayor has reversed his promise on forced placement plan. These are teachers who have been removed from schools for a variety of reasons, and who principals have repeatedly resisted hiring.
