It's unfortunate that a candidate for governor would resort to a cheap political stunt on an issue as important as raising standards for New York schools.
Rob Astorino's cynical ploy to exploit confusion about the Common Core to score a few votes on a sham ballot line shows that he's not serious about the challenges facing public education; he's not serious about the standing of American students in a competitive global marketplace; and he's not serious about what it takes to be governor. Children deserve leaders willing to stand up for them and make sure they have access to a world-class education. This being the campaign season, maybe it’s time for students to create a 'Stop Cynical Politicians' ballot line.
