September 9th is the first day of school for K-12 students across all five boroughs in New York City. It is especially significant since it is the last first day of classes under Mayor Mike Bloomberg, and it comes one day before NYC's mayoral primaries.
GothamSchools has sent four reporters out to canvass all corners of NYC and report on the first day of school, including political stories involving the mayoral candidates and the students who are attending their first day of class for the 2013-2014 school year.
