New York City will double its funding for teacher training beginning this June. According to the New York Daily News, $100 million will help teachers prepare for the new Common Core standards, while a portion of the funding will help schools prepare for the new system of evaluating teachers.
Chancellor Walcott discussed the increase in funding with the Daily News:
Principals will have access to the money starting next month, Walcott said. The one-time budget boost means thousands in additional funds for every school.
“Doubling down like this is a significant step,” said Walcott. “It will build the strength and capacity of our teachers to deliver everything we expect of them.”
